Here’s a riddle for you.
In Japan, I start in January, but in Australia, I come in July,
In South Africa, I start in March, but I couldn’t tell you why,
In the United Kingdom, it’s April and in the US? Any time from Jan to July,
So, here is the riddle for all you boffins: what or who am I?
Did you get it?
Drum roll….
It’s the start of the financial year!
When it comes to doing business planning with firms, my personal preference is to start in January.
I think there’s something about the break in the year that comes with Christmas that wipes the slate clean and gives us a fresh start.
At the same time, I know many firms out there still operate on a financial year.
At the start of 2024, I committed to creating a book to accompany every single end-to-end training course that I designed.
The idea is to cover every learning medium possible.
That means a book on pricing, a book on new client engagement, a book on digital marketing for advice firms, and a few more down the track.
Thankfully, I already managed to knock one of these off for the beginning of the year when I wrote Planning for Success.
(It’s also available on Amazon here if you particularly wanted to buy it as a physical book- https://www.amazon.com.au/Planning-Success-business-amazing-results/dp/B0D3V6MWX7)
However, if you’d like to grab an electronic copy, it’s one of the resources that I give away as part of our free practice success membership.
All you need to do is jump in there, head over to courses, and look for the section titled Tools and Technology.
https://audere.com.au/practice-success/
It covers how to:
– set a strategic vision,
– analyse all those projects that you might need to get done,
– decide what order to attack,
– set the right targets, and
– most importantly, plan implementation so you and your team can easily get the work done.
