This is possibly the most important message I want to share via the blog this year.
It’s been a long, long damn year. I’ve had times this year I’ve felt drained, empty, out of shape, not in my groove, and definitely not at my most enthusiastic.
Like you though, I’ve pushed through because underneath it all I love what I do and I love being a business owner.
But I can’t keep it up unless I step away.
I’ve been saying this as much as I can to every client who has invested in themselves (and me) to drive their business forward because stepping away isn’t just about taking a break…
…it’s about being able to keep going too.
I wanted to share it more widely.
I have a number of things I do to step away briefly, like:
- Get into some escapist fiction to like Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Series.
- Complete Witcher 3 on the PS4 (and now its goooooooone)
- Get down to the snow with a group of mates (it’s hard to check your phone going down a mountain)
- Punching the living daylights out of Bob for a few minutes (you may need to watch the video for that)
These are all good releases, and maybe you have some secret pleasures of your own.
This Xmas though we need more.
We all need at least three weeks to stop answering emails, turn the phone off, and disconnect from being a business owner.
We all need to recharge, because this game we’re in, it’s a marathon…
….and I intend to make it to the finish in good enough shape to enjoy the after-party.
